Deliberation on the Special Environmental Study and Management Plans proposals for the Natura 2000 Sites of Western Crete on 17 June 2022.

The study “Preparation of Special Environmental Studies (SES) and Management Plans (MP) for Natura 2000 Sites of the Region of Crete” concerns the preparation of special environmental studies and management plans for 28 Special Areas of Conservation and 26 Special Protection Areas of the Natura 2000 network in Crete. The project is part of a wider plan by the Ministry of Environment and Energy in order to create a National System of Protected Areas.

In the framework of this study, MADE Consultants in collaboration with OIKOM LTD organized a deliberation which will take place on June 17, 2022, with the presence of stakeholders of Western Crete. At the deliberation the measures and proposals proposed by the project work team will be presented and then they will be discussed with the public in order to understand the needs of the areas and their inhabitants, who will then be able to submit in writing their objections and their concerns.

Objectives of the special environmental study are:

1. the formulation of the appropriate proposal for the demarcation and characterization of an area, elements or sets of nature as protected,
2. the formulation and documentation of the necessary general conditions, prohibitions, and restrictions on land uses, for the protection of nature, as well as in the installation and exercise of activities and projects’ execution
3. and finally, the justification and documentation of the importance of the protective object and the expediency of the proposed protection measures.
